QLED&Mini LED,your new choice?

In the preceding text, we introduced the TFT LCD/OLED/Micro LED display technologies. Now, we are supplementing our discussion with two equally notable display technologies: QLED and Mini LED. These are actually based on TFT LCD technology, with different improvements to the backlight, thus addressing various shortcomings of TFT LCD and achieving a qualitative leap in display performance.

Mini LED Technology

Mini LED chip sizes range between 50 and 200 micrometers, and when combined with other components, the pixel pitch of the resulting display unit remains within the range of 0.3-1.5 millimeters. Precision Mini LED chips replace the backlight source of LCD, allowing for more dynamic partitioning. Each partition is managed by at least 3 control chips, resulting in outstanding display performance while being highly power-efficient. As a nascent technology, it is often compared to Micro LED. Although Micro LED boasts astonishing sizes smaller than 50 micrometers, serving as individual pixels in traditional TV sizes and resolutions, the technology is currently not mature enough and is priced too high compared to Mini LED.

QLED Technology

QLED (Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diodes) enhances picture quality by attaching a layer of quantum dot film to the screen. The structure of quantum dot light-emitting diodes is very similar to OLED technology, with the main difference being that the emitting center of quantum dot light-emitting diodes is composed of quantum dots. Electrons and holes converge in the quantum dot layer to form photons, which then emit light through photon recombination. QLED quantum dot film brings better color accuracy and color volume, enabling the screen’s color gamut value to easily exceed 110%. However, other drawbacks of LCD still persist.

QD-Mini LED

As a side note, TCL has introduced their QD-Mini LED technology, which combines the technical advantages of both LCD and OLED. It has breakthroughly solved the industry’s technical challenge of massive transfer of Micro LED chips, upgrading surface light sources to pixel-level point sources. Meanwhile, it adopts the world-leading QLED technology, achieving ultra-high contrast, ultra-high brightness, ultra-wide color gamut, and ultra-long lifespan.
